Inclusion needs us banner

Inclusion needs us because…

Inclusion needs us because we are essential. By embracing Black inclusion, we create a richer, more vibrant society where everyone can thrive. Black communities have a rich wellspring of experience, creativity, and innovation. When we’re excluded from the table, those ideas are lost, and society suffers. Seeing ourselves reflected in leadership, media and everyday life is powerful. It fuels our confidence and inspires future generations. Without it, the message is clear that we do not belong. We need spaces where we can speak openly and be heard without judgment. When our voices are silenced, it stifles progress and reinforces stereotypes. That’s why I’m asking all of you to be champions for Black inclusion. Start by listening to Black voices, actively seeking out Black perspectives, and advocating for equitable opportunities. And that’s why inclusion needs us.

Can you talk about a place where you can be yourself?

A place where I can truly be myself is undoubtedly home, and for me, that’s New Orleans. There, I can freely talk loudly, dance openly, and engage with strangers without a second thought. 滨迟鈥檚 a place where I feel most authentic.

If you were to win an award, what would your walk-up song be?

My theme song would be, Gotta Be by Desree. It’s like a 90s bop. It’s upbeat, like an鈥after school special song. You can wake up to it, and you start your day with this song.

If you could talk about something for 30 minutes without preparation, what would it be?

If I could talk about anything for 30 minutes without preparation, the topics would be Beyonc茅 and respectability politics. For me, Beyonc茅 is the greatest LIVING entertainer of our time. There鈥檚 no debate with me about that.听

Regarding respectability politics, I am an advocate for breaking free from being agreeable and compliant as Black people…specifically Black women. I just believe that we should be able to show up as our most authentic selves instead of constantly having to conform to societal expectations of decorum.

What makes you excited about the work you do?

What excites me most about my work is the constant learning. As this is a new industry for me, I’m experiencing significant growth, even though it’s challenging at times. These growing pains ultimately will make me better, and the thrill of acquiring new knowledge keeps me engaged.
